Newmarket
The Town of Newmarket lies in the heart of York
Region, located 50 km north of Toronto. There are
many parks within the town, including Wesley Brooks
Memorial and Mabel Davis conservation areas. Recreational
facilities, including arenas, baseball and soccer
fields, indoor/outdoor tennis courts and pools are
located throughout the town. Strollers can take
a walking tour of Newmarket's old downtown in which
they will find historical buildings, quaint shops,
outdoor cafés, and large trees along Fairy
Lake. The Elman Campbell Museum on Main Street provides
the history of the town through photos and displays.
A lengthy recreational trail winds through the town
along the length of the Holland River. Great golfing
lies in and around town and other leisurely pursuits
are easily accessible in ski and cottage country.
Main Street is a unique experience with early 1800s
styled historic architecture, streetlights, and
custom grown flower barrels. It's proximity to the
Holland River Trail System and Fairy Lake allows
for recreational, cultural and arts activities.
Local businesses provide boutiques, patio eateries,
live theatres and a seasonal farmer's market in
a vibrant setting. Also located on Main Street is
the Elman W. Campbell Museum, which has a collection
of Newmarket artifacts.
