Markham
Markham is York Region's largest municipality with
a population of 205,000 (estimated as of 2000).
Just north-east of Toronto, Markham includes picturesque
and historic Unionville, and part of Thornhill.
The town is unique in that it has two Main Streets,
one in Unionville and the other in old town Markham.
A new trail system, the largest museum in the region
(with over 20 buildings), major hotels, great golfing,
shopping, and dining make Markham a great place
to visit where Toronto is also in easy reach. Markham
has been likened to Silicon Valley for its concentration
of high-tech businesses. Visit in the summer to
see this award-winning Communities in Bloom community;
visit in early October for one of Canada's largest
fairs at the Fairgrounds, home to many other special
events.
